As a ghostwriter, you are only limited by your own imagination. Put that imagination to work and armed with a bit of knowledge you really can ghost write your way to success.
Ask any web site owner and they will tell you that content is the key to success. Most of these business owner’s however, do not have the time or ability to write their own content. This is where you come in; as a ghostwriter you can write their content, articles, e-books, newsletters, etc., and get paid for it.
Listed below are 7 steps to help you on your way to a successful ghostwriting career.
1. You can use the web to research any articles you need to write. By typing in a few keywords you can find information on just about anything. The key to research is to read as much as you can jotting down the important points you come across. Once you have this completed all you have to do is take what you have learned and turn it into a unique and powerful article. Under no circumstances should you copy and paste information you find. This is against the law and if you are found to do this, you will never have a ghostwriting career.
2. Sign up to ghostwriting jobs sites such as Elance and Guru. These are excellent places to find work .There are several different jobs websites that you can choose from, most are free but some charge a nominal monthly amount. These sites advertise the projects and allow you to bid on them. The buyer then chooses the person they think is best suited for the job. It is important to take some time when bidding on projects. Read all the information provided and see how others place their bids. This will allow you to see what others are charging and how they promote themselves. This tip is especially useful if you are just starting out.
3. Write some articles for e-zines. You can publish your article on the net and others can read and use it. Although I am not in favour of writing for free, it does help to be able to let prospective employers know that you are published. And your name is on it. There are hundreds of article directories that you can submit to and if you want your name recognized this is definitely the way to go.
4. As well as submitting your article to Article Directories such as ezinearticles, linksnoop, or articescity for self promotion, these directories are also a good place to see what everyone else is writing, check out their style, how they use their headings etc. You can also get some excellent ideas for future articles too.
5. Whenever possible use a resource box. A resource box is a few lines about you. For example:
Jane Smith is a ghostwriter whose articles appear on websites and e-zines. She also writes newsletters, advertising copy and promotional material for various clients. Jane may be contacted at janesmith@blah blah.com
Make sure you let people know how to contact you.
6. Contact local sporting groups, service clubs and community organisations and offer your services writing their newsletter. Make sure you have all the information on hand such as your rates, how long it will take you and of course some references.
7. Always ask for referrals and recommendations. These are more valuable than any certificate or qualification you may have. Word of mouth is the best form of advertising there is.
If you follow these 7 simple steps you are sure to put your ghostwriting career on the path to success.
