Spelling Grammar

I can not tell you how many times I have received a letter or email from someone and could not understand what they are trying to say. It could be due to run on sentences, poor spelling or just plain laziness but there is no excuse.

When you want to look professional and get your point across you want to make sure that your writing is legible and understandable. Nothing tells a prospective client not to deal with you more then spelling or grammar errors in official writings. Confusion and misunderstanding comes from poor grammar and can cost you sales.

I know what some people say, spelling is so hard and how do I know I have it right? Well just take your word processor and write the email it that! Make sure you set its grammar checking at the highest level. You will be absolutely shocked at what you find.

Make sure you follow all the rules of writing including the best rule of all – STAY AWAY FROM SLANG!

Slang is the use of words or phrases with special meaning for the area you live in. Something that means one thing for you could mean something else to another person. Keep the confusion to a minimal and just do not use it.

Another rule that you should follow is never use short forms. If a word is worth using then use it fully and give it the credit that it deserves. It could be misunderstood and cost you a sale.

When I look at advertising or marketing copy I always look for misspelled words or grammatical errors. When I see them I just move on. If an advertiser does not take the time to make sure their copy is correct then what does that tell me about the company they represent?

Remember…There is no excuse.
