The best gift you can give someone is one that you have created yourself. This may be something that you have made or something you have written. I believe that writing something to give as a gift to others is the most personal gift you can ever give. Here are some ideas for writing to give as a gift to someone you care about.
Poetry is a beautiful way to tell someone how much you care. It does not have to rhyme unless you choose to write it that way. Think about what you love most about the person you will be writing for. What do they do that makes them different and special to you? What can you say about their personality and the way they live their life? Here is an example of a poem I wrote for my close friend, Dennis:
Your eyes light up when you see old friends again
They are filled with joy as you reminisce about way back when
Watching you play tennis is like seeing an acrobat skillfully moving
You share your knowledge so openly with those you know
When you are here I never want you to go
I wrote that for Dennis's thirtieth birthday. He was killed in a car accident less than two years later. His parents said that he had treasured my little poem as the best gift he had ever received from a friend. It seemed so silly at the time, but now I am happy that I wrote it and gave it to him.
You can write poems or an essay or even a short story to give as a gift. It will be appreciated greatly to the person you give it to.
